What a week! Poor Steve spent the week recovering from surgery, and we thought all was well until a few days ago when he developed severe hives. We're not sure what it is from, but we're thinking the antibiotics that he was taking. On top of that, we took my new van to have the complimentary service performed and the service lady BACKED IT INTO A LIGHT POLE. UGH! So that had to be fixed, so I've been without my beloved minivan most of the week.

Some good news...Chase has slept 5 straight hours 2 nights in a row! (And I just totally jinxed tonight's sleep by typing that.) He is getting so big! Here's the proof:

Big ultrasound!

My big ultrasound was today and it went great! The kids went with us and even got their very own pictures of the baby. The baby was measuring about a week ahead and everything looked perfectly healthy. It weighed 11 ounces and had a heart rate of 158.

And we stayed strong...we didn't find out the sex! It was HARD, but I think it will be so exciting in the end.

First of all, holy cow, it is hot outside. I am not ready for this! Although I do enjoy pool weather...pictures of that coming soon.

Today, I ventured to Lowe's to get some much-needed flowers for our house. We are a bit behind due to vacations and being out of town. But we finally got it done today. Mason was VERY excited to help, and he is even more excited about watering the flowers. Let's see how long he sticks to it ;)

17 weeks pregnant

Since this will be my last pregnancy, I am truly trying to savor every moment of it. For the most part, I enjoy being pregnant. I am very lucky in that I really have never had morning sickness with any of my kids. (Go ahead, I give you permission to hate me for that ;) But this time around, I have been WAY more exhausted than before. And taking care of 2 toddlers while you're pregnant sure doesn't help with that! But overall, I've been feeling well.

My big ultrasound is coming up on June 6th. I am so excited to see the baby, and, of course, hoping that he/she looks healthy. Speaking of he/she...we are NOT going to find out the sex of the baby this time. (And it is going to absolutely kill me!) I've always secretly hated when people didn't find out what they are having, so I'm really kind of surprised that I am doing it myself. I am such a planner, especially when it comes to buying clothes and decorating a nursery. But this time around, it is different. We already have a boy and a girl, so we have clothes either way. And for the nursery, I plan on using Brynn's room, which is painted a nice neutral shade of green. I already have bedding picked out for each, that I plan on ordering as soon as the baby is born.
Plus, the thought of finding out in the delivery room gives me goosebumps. :) As cheesy as it sounds, I can't wait to hear Steve say "It's a boy!" or "It's a girl!"

Mason and Brynn are pretty excited too. Mason keeps asking "What is my baby doing?" or "When is the baby coming out?" I can't wait for them to be able to feel baby kicking and moving around! I'm still waiting to feel that first kick myself, thanks to an anterior placenta (for the third time!). But I think it should be coming soon. I absolutely love that feeling and I can't wait to feel it again.

So that is about it for now. Just enjoying the ride while it lasts :)

They look like such good little patients! Mason was actually very good at this visit and is getting pretty good at going to the dentist. Brynn, on the other hand, cried...A LOT. But I guess that is to be expected. :)

Exhausted doesn't even begin to describe how I've felt since finding out in February. It's been a struggle, but I'm now 15 weeks along and I *think* I am getting some energy back.

Brynn is TWO!!

In the blink of an eye, my baby girl has turned into a 2 year old! Where has the time gone?

Day 1:

Day 730:

I'm stealing this format from my friend Laura for this update. :)

Age: 2 years

Weight: 28 lbs

Height: 36 inches (90th percentile) - She's going to be a tall one, apparently, like Mason and her daddy!

Size: 24 month/2T clothes, size 6 shoe, size 5 diaper

Hair: Had her hair trimmed in January, but other than that, we're letting it grow.

Teeth: At least 16, maybe 20. It's virtually impossible for me to see inside her little mouth to see if the 2 year molars have popped through yet. She visited the pediatric dentist recently and everything looked great!

Sleeping: She is a great sleeper. She typically sleeps from 8pm to 8am, with a 2 hour nap during the day.

Eating: She loves fruit, cheese, and crackers. She is not a fan of veggies, but every once in a while, we can sneak some in. She is definitely pickier than Mason ever was, so it is a challenge.

Movement: He loves to run, jump, climb, go down slides, and play.

Milestones: She LOVES to sing. She can sing Twinkle, Twinkle, Happy Birthday, Rain, Rain Go Away, Row Row Row Your Boat, You Are My Sunshine, and I'm sure others that I am forgetting . She can count to 10 in English and Spanish (thank you, Dora). She can say her ABC's and we are still working on recognizing letters & colors. We plan on switching her carseat to forward facing soon.

Favorite toys/activities: watching Dora, toy cars/trucks (thanks to Mason), playing with her babies, and singing . She loves being outside with Mason. And especially loves going to Mimi & Grampy's house.

Dislikes: Strangers, new places, chewing up her food (she "chipmunks" food that she doesn't like in her cheeks - it is hilarious)

Words: Too many to count! I can definitely tell a huge difference in her vocabulary versus Mason's at age 2. Mason has clearly had a great influence on her speech!

I decided that I wanted to do some sort of DIY Valentine cards for Mason's preschool class. I ran across the idea to make these cute heart-shaped crayons and decided to go for it. After a quick trip to Target, here is what we came up with:

They didn't turn out exactly like I wanted because I discovered that the heart mold that I bought wasn't oven-safe. So I had to melt the crayon colors individually and pour them in.

My grandmother, AKA 'Grannie' in our family, passed away last Monday. We tearfully said goodbye to her this past week. I have so many wonderful memories with her, and I know I will always hold those close to me.

She was so funny :)

When we were searching through old pictures for the funeral, my aunt Kim ran across this note from my Grannie that had gotten misplaced amongst the pictures. My Grandpa passed away almost 5 years ago. How amazingly appropriate it seemed:

I've said it before, and I'll say it again...I feel SO incredibly lucky to have been very close to all four of my grandparents growing up. Grannie was the last living grandparent that I had. It feels so surreal that they are all gone now.

First ER visit :(

Well, it was bound to happen sooner or later. We made our first official visit to the emergency room with child. It was for Brynn. Words can't even describe how horrible we feel for the whole thing.

Monday night, I went to the nursing home to visit my very sick grandmother. At about 8pm, I got a call on my cell from Steve. He was in absolute panic mode. He told me that Brynn had fallen and burnt her hands on the fireplace. And that I needed to get home NOW. I could hear Brynn screaming in the background and I knew it wasn't good. My heart immediately sank. I ran out the door and I drove home as fast as I could (note: I almost got pulled over but got lucky because the cop pulled over the guy in front of me instead). Thankfully, my mom was able to follow me to my house so that she could stay with Mason.

We got in the car and headed to the ER. All I can think about is how she didn't stop crying the whole time. It was absolutely gut-wrenching to see her in that kind of pain and feel so totally helpless. ::cry:: Once we got there, they took us back as soon as we walked in the door. The doctor met us in the ER. He looked at her hands and immediately told us that she was going to be fine. It was then that I finally breathed a tiny sigh of relief. He told us that she had second-degree burns (blisters), but that she should heal very quickly. Thank goodness. However, she was still wailing and we needed to do something for the pain. I'm honestly not sure how much pain she was in at this point or if she was just so tense and anxious. She definitely has some serious anxiety of strangers & strange places, so being in the ER wasn't helping. The doctor decided to give her some Tylenol with Codeine for pain and Ativan to help calm her down. They worked on getting her hands wrapped up while the meds took effect. About 15 minutes later, she suddenly calmed down and was actually chipper and talking to everyone. It was such a relief. Thank you, drugs!

The doctor told us that he wanted us to take her to Shriners Hospital burn center so that they could look at her hands. He said that normally he wouldn't recommend it with this degree of burn, but since it was on her palms and fingers it could potentially affect her range of motion.

So we got her home and in bed. It was (thankfully) the shortest ER visit that I've ever had. The staff there was wonderful.

The next morning, I called Shriners to see if they could see her. They were able to get her in that same afternoon. Brynn woke up that morning and was in a great mood. I gave her another dose of Tylenol w/ Codeine even though she was acting okay. I would soon regret this as she started throwing up later that morning. Poor baby :( It didn't seem to phase her though and we went ahead to our appointment with Shriners.

Shriners Hospital was absolutely awesome. The nurse and nurse practitioner that we saw were so sweet. I pretty much got the impression that we really didn't need to be there, and that the ER doctor was being very conservative by sending us. Again, they told us that she should heal with no issues. Great news!

Unfortunately, Brynn was still vomiting when we got home. By then, I was starting to wonder if were possibly dealing with a stomach virus. Brynn was absolutely exhausted, so I put her to bed at 6:30pm that night. She slept all night and didn't wake up til 8am the next morning. Lucky for us, she was as good as new that next morning (yesterday). It was good to have our happy little Brynn back. So I'm chalking the vomiting up to the Tylenol w/Codeine. We will definitely avoid it again if we can.

So there is the very long-winded story of what happened. All I know is that we are never using that stupid fireplace again. We both feel so dumb for not thinking that this could happen. But I guess hindsight is 20/20 and it does no good to beat ourselves up over it. I'm just so thankful that she is going to be okay. She has HUGE blisters on her hands right now, but they should go away soon.

This week, our hearts are heavy. We lost my wonderful grandmother at the age of 94. I feel so lucky to have been very close to all 4 of my grandparents my whole life. I don't think you realize what a blessing that is until you get older. I have so many fond memories of Grandma...buildings houses of cards, admiring her spoon collection, looking at old pictures, playing Old Maid and Go Fish, eating lunch down by the river, talking about sports and history, playing her piano, teaching her how to use e-mail, summer cookouts & birthday parties, and the list goes on. Grandma was such an amazing person and I can only hope to be half the grandma to my grandkids someday.

We love you and miss you, Grandma!

So a couple weeks ago, we decided to take Brynn's pacifier away. She only used it in her crib to go to sleep. We just made it disappear and she did great with it. Problem solved.

Adventures in potty training

One minute I think Mason is so so close to being potty trained, and the next minute we take 2 steps back. Oh what fun it is!

Anyway, at least I got some cute pictures of him in his Thomas the Train underwear :)

All Things Loved...this Summer!

Clearly, I am not very good at doing these 'All Things Loved' posts consistently on a monthly basis. So we will just call this one All Things Loved This Summer :)

1. Revlon Colorstay Liquid Eye Liner

I'm not sure why it took me so long to make the switch to liquid eye liner, but something had to give. I was sick of putting my eyeliner on in the morning only to look like a raccoon 8 hours later. The liquid stuff stays put so much better!

2. Moroccan Oil

My good friend Steph recommended this a while back, and I finally got around to trying this. LOVE it. It's perfect to help tame my thick, frizzy, curly hair in this humid weather. And it smells yummy.

3. Morningstar Farms Spicy Black Bean Veggie Burgers

I am totally not a veggie burger person, but I tried these on a whim because I love pretty much anything involving black beans. And to my surprise, these were great! Both Mason and Brynn will eat them, and they only take like 5 minutes to make. Score! A easy and quick lunch.

4. Plan To Eat

I discovered this website via on the my favorite foodie blogs. Since I have been horrible at meal planning (and thus grocery shopping) recently, I wanted to give this a try. It's a website where you can search for and upload recipes. Since I use so many online recipes, I was excited to find out that you can cope & paste the URL and it instantly loads the recipe. After that, you can put the meals on your calendar and even generate a grocery list. You get a month long trial to see if you like it. After that, it is $39 per year. Not free, but well worth (to me) for the sanity it gives me.

5. Pedipeds

I am completely convinced that these are the best baby shoes ever. They are comfy, well-made, and they actually fit chubby baby feet. Oh, and they are CUTE!

(Brynn may or may not have 5+ pairs...)

They are a little pricey for kids' shoes, but if you are a diligent shopper, you can find GREAT deals on these. For instance, I just bought THESE for Mason. The price on the website is $12. Regular price is $40+. I used coupon code FFSAVE for 40% off and the total price was $7.20. Score! I also got a pair for Brynn (she can hardly wear any other brands). You can also find good deals on sites like 6pm.com, Nordstrom, and Ebay.

6. Droid

I got this phone a couple months ago and am pretty much loving it so far! The touch screen took some getting used to, but it's a pretty easy adjustment. I love all of the apps, as well as the MP3 player.

Poor Brynn officially has her first illness. She's been running a fever all weekend. She really doesn't have any other symptoms, so I'm willing to bet that it is the oh-so-wonderful roseola. We'll find out for sure if she breaks out in a rash soon. I'm hoping she can get a good night of sleep and feel better tomorrow!

Thankful

Today, I turned 29 years old. Unfortunately, I spent several hours of my birthday at the emergency room with my dad. He had an accident in his Bobcat yesterday afternoon and gave us quite a scare. He was transferred to our nearest trauma center for evaluation, and he is still in the hospital tonight. He's in a lot of pain, but thankfully, he managed to escape with only 4 broken ribs and many cuts & bruises. He is extremely lucky. And we are extremely thankful that he didn't get hurt worse!

And while I'm being thankful, I love capturing everyday moments like this:

Today Mason started swimming in the deep end by himself with only the help of his puddle jumper! I'm so happy that he has taken to the water like he has. I hope he is able to enjoy swimming as much as I did growing up.

This is the Stearns Puddle Jumper as modeled by Mason. Can't say enough good things about it.
